“Falling leaves”

I watched as the elves from the trees fell to the ground at the end of a long and warm summer.

Too warm and too dry for the trees to survive and now all that was left was for the leaves to fall so new ones could take their place.

It was the circle of life and yet it fascinated me.

As I kid I watched those leaves fall and after that summer when the trees fell early I knew what I wanted to do in life.

Those trees and their falling leaves gave me meaning.

Gave me a purpose.

And finally, I wasn’t lost anymore.

“The snow came early”

The snow came early that year and we were still living in a little house without any heat or a furnace to keep ourselves warm.

We did what we had to do once the ground froze and the snow kept falling.

We stole and we begged just to survive.

It wasn’t like we were trying to hurt people we just didn’t have any other way.

And so when the snow finally cleared at the end of that year and we could again make do with what we had in our little house we made sure to try and make everything right.

We didn’t know what we had done could never be made right and when we finally understood what we had done the snow was back and we had to it all over again.

“And then we wept”

When we saw what we had done we all sat down and wept.

Wept because it was over.

Wept because of the destruction we had caused.

The towns we had come through had been reduced to ruins and the streams running in and out of those towns were no longer blue but black with soot.

The trees whose leaves had fallen early because of what we had done were black too with soot.

Everything was dirty.

Everything was destroyed.

And we had caused it.

So we wept.

Because there was nothing else left to do.

“Waiting for the rain”

The field lay barren after the summer.

No rain has come for months and the grass and the flowers have withered.

I go on my morning walks and I remember what the fields used to look like.

I remember how they used to be green and covered with flowers.

And I know they can be that way again.

If only the rain would come.

“Taking my time”

I watched the rain as it rolled in across the hills and it struck me that I had never taken the time to watch the weather before.

I had watched everything else in this world but never the weather.

Why?

It was something I couldn’t change.

Something I didn’t have control over.

I don’t know why I never took the time to look at something so peaceful.

So alien as the weather.

I don’t.

So here I am, watching the weather, trying to make up for lost time.
