“Forgive me”

He cried as he looked her in the eyes.

Waiting, for what felt like an eternity, for her answer.

With tears streaming down her cheeks she said ”I love you, but I can’t stay”

”Why?” He asked.

She looked at him, at the face that she had come to love, ”Because my life is somewhere else.”

”Please,” He said, as she turned to leave.

”Forgive me.”

“Her perfect eyes”

I never saw someone like her before.

And I never saw someone like her again.

It was one night.

Just one.

And that was all we needed.

I saw her outside the bar.

Someone was talking to her.

She wasn’t interested in him.

I thought she was perfect.

But I didn’t want to talk up to her.

So I sat at the bar and drank.

Drank while looking at her.

At her body.

And her eyes.

Her perfect eyes.

As she entered the bar again she managed to ditch the annoying guy as she ordered a drink.

I watched her.

Now closer than ever.

She noticed me.

I looked away.

Scared of how she would react.

I thought she smiled, but I didn’t want to turn my head to look.

”What’s your name?” She asked me and I nearly choked on my drink.

That was the beginning of our night.

Just one night.

That was all it was.

And that was all we needed.

“The beginning of something beautiful”

I loved her.

And she didn’t know who I was.

At least I didn’t think she did.

I used to sit at the back of the class and watch her while my friends talked to her.

I never spoke.

I didn’t dare to.

What if she would reject me?

Like she did all my friends.

I saw the way they interacted, all of them, my friends and hers. And I never understood.

I didn’t know that was something I had to do.

So I sat quietly in every room.

And I watched.

And I listened.

Maybe that was wrong of me.

Maybe it was creepy.

But it worked.

One day she saw me.

I smiled at her.

She smiled back.

And that was the start of something beautiful.

“I saw them”

I saw them.

And I knew they had something I wanted.

I saw them walking down the street and I knew I had to have what they had.

I wondered how they got it.

What made them different?

Why couldn’t I find what they had?

I wondered what I was doing wrong.

I watched them walking down the street, hand in hand, and I hoped that was something I would experience one day.

Having someone next to me.

Walking down the street, hand in hand.

Loving someone.

And having someone watching us, like I watched the couple, wondering what I had done right.

“The times we met”

I met her when I was walking home from the store.

I had never seen someone like her before.

I tried to smile.

She didn’t smile back.

That was the first time we met.

The second time was at a bar.

I saw her sitting with a group of friends, talking, laughing with them.

I remember how her smile would light up the entire room.

Everyone looked at her at one point.

But none spoke to her.

None dared to.

The third time was outside my apartment.

She was walking home with her hands full of books and folders.

It must have been hard to carry because as she passed me she dropped everything.

I thought about not helping her for a minute then my better judgment got the better of me and I got down on my knees and helped her pick everything up.

”Could you help me?” She asked.

I nodded, unable to speak. Starstruck by her beauty.

That was the third time we met.

Now I’m looking forward to the fourth time.

This time at a restaurant.

Just her and I.

That will be the fourth time we meet.

“Why didn’t I ask”

I saw her walking out the door.

A bag in her hands.

I didn’t understand what was happening.

She didn’t say anything.

Just left.

I thought she would be back soon.

I didn’t realize she had left forever.

Or maybe I didn’t care.

I didn’t ask what she was doing.

I didn’t even ask where she was going.

Why didn’t I?

I sat on the couch and looked at her as she came down the stairs, bag in hand, and then I watched as she walked out.

Not once did I ask what she was doing.

Maybe I didn’t care.

Maybe I was sure she would be back.

Why didn’t I just ask her?
