“Your word was law”

You thought it was right.

There was nothing else to do was there?

You were the only one who knew what was right.

And that was your mistake.

None was going to help you when you needed it because you’d already burned every single bridge out there.

All because you were so arrogant that you didn’t think anyone else could know better than you.

You knew everything.

You knew the right way.

That was it.

There was no other way.

Because you said there wasn’t one.

And your word was law.

“A mistake”

It was a mistake.

My family wouldn’t like it.

My friends wouldn’t like it.

But I thought I liked it.

I didn’t think it was a mistake until I came home and saw what I’d done.

When I saw it for the mistake it really was.

But by then there was nothing I could do.

I couldn’t change anything.

I couldn’t do go back in time.

I was going to have to live with my mistake.

Forever.

“As the clouds rolled in”

We used to sit together and watch as the clouds rolled in from across the mountains.

I remember thinking that we would be sitting there, together, until the end of days.

But that wasn’t the case.

One day I sat there and I waited butte never came.

She’d left.

Without saying a word.

Devastated I spent many years trying to find her, or someone like her to take the empty space next to me as I watched the clouds rolling in.

But I could never find her.

And now I’m old and I’m still sitting here, in the exact same spot watching as the clouds come rolling in from across the mountains and I wish she would still be here, sitting next to me.

“We gave them a fight”

They were told to use whatever force necessary.

But there was no need for force.

We weren’t going to put up a fight.

Not until they came in and picked one.

We were going to come out peacefully.

But they wanted a fight.

And they got one.
