“Where it had come”

Alex was running down the street.

Running from something that he couldn’t see.

He knew something was behind him, he could hear it. But he could not see it.

All he knew was that it was getting closer with every step.

He kept running down the street hoping that he would meet someone but it was late, and none was out.

He didn’t stop even though his thighs were screaming and his lungs felt like they were going to explode.

He didn’t stop because he knew that if he did the thing behind him would get him.

He knew that it would take him and drag him back to where it had come from.

Alex could hear its steps closing in. He couldn’t outrun it. Soon it would have him.

He didn’t understand what it was or what it wanted, but he knew that he had to keep running.

Keep running even though his body was on the verge of collapse.

He wanted to stop, he wanted to stop and scream at the thing and tell it to go away, but he couldn’t. He knew he couldn’t. He knew he had to keep running.

Alex knew that even as his legs gave out and he fell on the street.

He didn’t move. He didn’t want to move. The thing chasing him had won.

He laid there on the ground as the monster he had been running from came.

It growled and walked around Alex before sinking its teeth into his back and began dragging him back to where it had come from.

“In the dark”

He was running down the street in the dark.

Running from the man who was chasing him.

Knowing that he had to get away.

He turned a corner, and he could see the green door which was his.

He would be safe there.

The man couldn’t get him there.

He could hear the steps of the man behind him. Coming closer.

He had to get inside.

Inside his own home.

He would be safe there.

He reached the door. It wasn’t locked.

He never locked his door except for this time when he slammed it shut behind him and turned the lock until it wouldn’t turn anymore.

Outside he could hear the man breathing on the other side of the door.

He was finally safe.

A sound made him turn around and there, behind him, was the man.

He had gotten in.

Inside his home.

”It’s time,” The man said before he grabbed him by the throat and pulled him out into the dark.

“Two men”

Two men were walking down the street.

It was dark. Darker than it usually was.

A perfect night for them.

A perfect night for what they were about to do.

The two men were used to the dark. They had spent so many years in it that neither of them was afraid of what was out there. For they knew that nothing was worse than them.

For so many years they had strolled down this street, searing for something which they rarely found.

Someone that was perfect for the both of them.

It was always hard work for rarely did they end the night happy. Rarely did they find what they were looking for.

But they kept on searching, every night, they went out and looked for that perfect someone.

This night there were very few people out. The two men had almost given up when they saw her coming towards them.

They saw her, and she was perfect.

Finally, they could do it again.

She was beautiful as she came walking down the street towards them. Perfect in every way.

The two men stopped and looked at each other, and without saying a word, they knew that she was right.

They waited patiently in the dark for her to come closer and then they stepped out in front of her.

One of the men grabbed her arms while the other put a rag in her mouth so she couldn’t scream for help. A well-rehearsed move perfected over the years.

Their car wasn’t far. She only had to be quiet until then. Once inside she could scream all she wanted, and none would come to her rescue.

The two men stood outside their car, smoking, looking up at the moonless night and the stars which shone so bright.

It was a perfect night, and neither of them wanted it to end.

“The thing”

The thing had a hold of her. Had a hold of her leg.

She couldn’t see it in the dark. But she knew what it was. She had seen it in her dreams many time before.

She wasn’t dreaming this time. This was real, the thing had a hold of her and was dragging her with it down to where it had come from.

She screamed for help as the thing dragged her across the floor of her bedroom.

But her screaming was for nothing. None else was home. She was alone.

Alone with the thing that had a hold of her leg.

She kept screaming as the thing adjusted its grip and she was lifted from the floor and jumped into the abyss.

Back to where it had come.

“Hiding a monster”

He ran down the street as fast as he could. She was getting closer, he could feel it.

Why couldn’t he outrun her?

He turned a corner and came out on a street with lots of people.

He screamed for help but none listened. They all looked at him.

Where was their compassion in a time like this?

He kept on running. There was no trace of her since he reached the busy street but he knew she was there. Hiding, in the shadows.

He knew where he could hide. There was a shelter not far from where he was, if he could only get there he would be safe.

At least for tonight.

His legs were aching from running so far and his lungs felt like they were going to explode. But he kept on running.

She wasn’t going to get him tonight.

He turned another corner and could see the sign of the shelter not far away.

He could get there.

Her footsteps were back.

She was so close.

Just a few yards more and he would be safe.

Why was she so fast?

He reached the shelter and pulled the door. It was locked.

Why? This place was never closed.

He screamed and struck the door with all the force he could muster.

Nothing, there was none there.

He turned around and saw her coming towards him.

She was just as beautiful as he could remember.

That beauty hid a monster.

She smiled at him for a second then walked up to kiss him.

He felt her warm lips on his own, closed his eyes and waited for the darkness the wash over him.

“Stepfather”

It was the wrong thing do. I know that now, but at the time it seemed like the most sensible thing to do.

We were at home, sitting around my tiny coffee table. Someone had brought alcohol, and we had spent the entire day drinking.

I don’t know how but we started talking about my stepfather and the things he did to me and my mother. How my mother always covered for him when the police arrived. And how he always turned a blind eye when he did what he did to me.

I don’t remember when we came up with the idea. All I can remember is that it was dark when we arrived at my mother’s house.

The lights were on the inside. He was in there. I knew that my friends knew that.

Someone handed me a gun. I don’t know how or why he had brought it, but I guess that this was always the way the plan would end.

I left my friends in the car and unlocked the front door with my keys.

”Hello,” My mother said from the kitchen as I entered. ”It’s been so long since we last saw you” She was trying to sound happy. Like everything was alright, but I could see the fresh black eye on her face.

I walked past her and into the living room where he was most likely sitting. I was right. He was there watching a football game with a smirk on his face.

I pulled my gun and aimed at him. My mother screamed and tried to tackle me, but she was too late.

I put a hole through my stepfathers head and left the house with him sitting back in that chair. His smirk wiped from his face forever.
