“One way out”

We knew there was only one way out of this.

Out of the situation we’d gotten ourselves into.

It wasn’t going to be pretty.

And most likely only one of us would make it out.

But we had to try.

We had gotten ourselves there.

And now we had to get ourselves out.

“A place in heaven”

There was a place in heaven for me.

Once upon a time.

But I’ve lost that place know.

I’ve done things I wish I didn’t.

And I’ve done things I wish I could do again.

But one thing I know for sure is that my place in heaven no longer exists.

And you know what?

I’m okay with that because it means I’ve lived a fun life.

“Something better right around the corner”

There’s always something better just around to corner.

That’s the idea.

That’s what everyone tells me.

But I don’t believe them.

What if this is it?

What if it doesn’t get any better than this?

I want to know if there really is something better just around the corner.

Otherwise, there really isn’t any point in me trying to find that corner.

”Too much on the line”

I couldn’t let them win.

Not this time.

There was too much on the line.

They weren’t going to win.

”Can you do it?” My coach asked.

I nodded, unable to speak, not sure if I was telling the truth or not.

”Then go out there and show me that you mean it, that we didn’t spend this entire year, training, just to be humiliated.”

I knew he was right.

Too much time, too much money, had been put into this.

I had to win.

There was no other way.

All I had to do was stand up and fight.

”A promise”

None thought I would escape.

They didn’t even think I had it in me.

But I did.

I showed them what I was made of and I made my escape.

I swore I would never go back there.

Never.

I was never going to step foot inside another one of those places again.

That was the only promise I made to myself.

I’ve kept that promise.

And I will keep it until the end of my life.

“I should have helped”

“You won’t even consider it?”
“Not if I can help it.”

I shouldn’t have been so rude.

I should have helped him.

Maybe then he would still be here, coming up with his insane plans.

If only I would have helped him.

Told him “yes, I will consider it,” instead of no.

I should have considered it.

And I would have helped him.

Because it wasn’t such an insane idea this time.

This time it was a good idea.

And I blew him off.

“A little voice told me so”

Something told me I was doing it wrong.

That I had to change what I was doing.

A little voice in the back of my head told me what I had to do.

What I had to change.

And I listened.

I listened to that voice and changed what it told me to change.

That’s when I rose to new heights.

That little voice in my head helped me achieve something I’d only ever dreamt of before.
