“When I was still young”

My mind has been preoccupied lately with thoughts of running away.

Thoughts of countries on the other side of the planet.

Places I’ve always wanted to see.

Thoughts of hiking through forests no man has set foot in for decades.

Thoughts of swimming naked through clear blue waters.

I don’t know why these thoughts has come to me this late in life.

When I’m too old and too weak to do any of it.

Why couldn’t I have dreamt of running away when I was still a young man?

When I was still able to do it.

  1. Beautifully expressed. You should just correct a very little mistake here: “I don’t know why these thought has come to me this late in life.” It should be like this, instead, in case you want to keep the plural form of “thought”, which I think makes sense because of the previous verses: “I don’t know why these thoughts have come to me this late in life.”
