“As the clouds rolled in”

We used to sit together and watch as the clouds rolled in from across the mountains.

I remember thinking that we would be sitting there, together, until the end of days.

But that wasn’t the case.

One day I sat there and I waited butte never came.

She’d left.

Without saying a word.

Devastated I spent many years trying to find her, or someone like her to take the empty space next to me as I watched the clouds rolling in.

But I could never find her.

And now I’m old and I’m still sitting here, in the exact same spot watching as the clouds come rolling in from across the mountains and I wish she would still be here, sitting next to me.
