“Baking is fun” (Repost)

”Baking is fun” My mother used to say whenever she made me work extra in her bakery. I can’t say I felt the same at the time, but baking grew on me.

It sounds fine if you think owning a bakery is all about baking, which is fun, but you will soon realize that I have to deal with people as well. Otherwise, the place wouldn’t run.

Well here’s a story of one of these people who come into my bakery. It was a warm summer day…

“What’s that?” The customer asked for the fiftieth time.

“Cinnamon bun,” I told him, who hadn’t seen a cinnamon bun? I asked myself.

“Well I don’t want that” Oh, so he knew what it tasted like, that must mean he knew what it was, I hated these kinds of people.

“Can I ask you what it is you’re looking for?” I tried, hoping that he would give me a clear answer and be on his way.

“Well…” He started to stutter out “I was looking for something cold to cool me down a bit.”

“Sir, this is a bakery, we don’t have anything cold to eat, but if you want I can offer you some cold drinks.”

“So, nothing I can order is going to cool me down? This heat is killing me.”

“As I said this is a bakery, we don’t serve cold food. But I can give you a cold drink.”

“I don’t want anything to drink. I want something to eat. Don’t you have ice cream or something?”

“I’m sorry sir, I don’t.”

“Well, what kind of restaurant is this!” He exclaimed throwing his arms up.

“Sir, you have to calm down, or I will have to ask you to leave.”

“Calm down! Why would I calm down, all I’m asking for is something cold to help me survive this heat, and your restaurant doesn’t have anything. How can you even call this a restaurant?”

“Sir…” I tried, but he was already heading out the door, telling everyone he could get a hold of that my bakery was the worst restaurant in town.

So before you think about opening a bakery of your own think about the type of people, you will meet and if you can deal with them.

But hey, at least baking is fun.
