“My job”

It was my job.

Nothing more.

I couldn’t refuse a job.

I couldn’t.

She would have to understand.

I thought she understood.

But she didn’t.

One day she wasn’t there when I got back.

I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that she left.

That she finally left.

But I was.

I was surprised when she wasn’t there when I got home.

I thought she would always be there.

But my job got in the way.
