“Not me”

There’s plenty to go around.

Or so they said.

There wasn’t enough for me.

But that was okay.

At least for them.

None cared that the little boy in the corner didn’t get anything.


Not one person said anything.

And neither did I.

I went back to my corner and watched as the other children played and I watched the parents as they stood, bored, and tried to fake happiness.

I looked around for my own parents.

But they weren’t there.

They never came to things like this.

They dropped me off and told me they would be back later.

That was it.

They didn’t care if I got any.

None did.

And by now I had gotten used to it as well.
