“I was nearly done”

I was nearly done when it happened.

I had almost made it.

And then it happened.

Time stopped.

And I was now further away then I had been when I began.

I remember sitting in my house, watching from the window as the sky turned black.

I saw people running, screaming, down the street outside.

I didn’t know what was going on.

And I didn’t want to go outside to see.

I heard the bang before I saw it.

And when I saw it there was nothing I could do.

The light was blinding.

The shockwave made my entire house shake.

I saw how the people outside stopped running, stopped screaming, and fell to the ground.

What was going on?

What was happening?

I wanted to know.

But there was no way for me to find out.

Time had stopped.

And I was now further away from my goal then I had ever been.
