I saw the car coming and I knew it was too late.
I tried to get to her.
But I wasn’t fast enough.
The car hit her, and she was sent flying.
I could only stand there and watch as she did cartwheels in the air for what felt like an eternity before she hit the ground.
The driver of the car slammed the brakes and the car came to a stop.
I couldn’t move.
I couldn’t believe what I’d just seen.
I didn’t want to believe it.
I gathered myself and ran over to where she was laying, bleeding, on the ground.
She wasn’t okay.
There was no way she was okay.
I didn’t even check if she had a pulse.
I knew she wouldn’t have one.
And if she did, considering the condition her body was in, I hoped it would go away soon.
The driver was calling an ambulance, but I knew it wouldn’t do any good.
She was gone.
Because I couldn’t get to her in time.
