“We can”

”You’ve been here before?” She asked as we reached the clearing in the middle of the woods.

”Yes,” I didn’t want to say any more than that.

”When?”

”Many years ago” I watched the old oak, with the lantern still hanging from one of its branches.

We walked around the massive tree and I could see that she was mesmerized by it, as I had been when I first saw it.

”How did you find this place?” She asked.

I didn’t want to answer.

”I wonder who hung the lantern here,” she said.

I didn’t want to say that it was I who had done it.

”It so beautiful,” She said as I sat down beneath the branch holding the lantern, a place where I had sat many times before.

”You like it?” I asked her.

She nodded, lacking words for the beauty the clearing in the middle of the forest held.

”I could stay here forever,” She said and sat down next to me.

”We can,” I said and leaned back.
