“I had seen the future”

I watched in horror as the plane fell from the sky.

I felt my father’s hand on my shoulder and I knew that he felt the same thing I did.

We had seen the future, if only for a minute.

One day those magnificent machines would crowd the sky.

Hopefully without falling.

What little joy I had felt just minutes earlier had been extinguished as we saw the wreckage and the pilot screaming in agony before going quiet, the flames having drowned his screams.

I knew then that I had seen the future.

But I had also seen something more.

I had seen a man die.

And that would haunt me forever.
