“It doesn’t exist”

I’ve walked back and forth, all over town, looking for one thing.

The only thing the whole city seems to have run out of.

How can that be? I wonder as I walk into one last store.

How can every single store in the city have run out at the exact same time?

I look around and see the section I’m looking for.

It better be there, I think and walk over.

Along the rows of unfamiliar brands, I look for it.

I see the brand name and walk over to the shelf.

There’s nothing.

It isn’t here either.

I look around for a clerk.

But there’s none around.

At the cash registers, I can see two clerks chatting.

I walk over to them and ask if they have what I’m looking for.

Both of them stare at me for a second before one of them takes charge and leads me back to the section I was just in.

”It should be here,” She says and scans the shelves.

It isn’t there. I know it isn’t.

I’ve just looked.

But I don’t say anything.

”I can’t seem to find it, give me a minute and I’ll check in the back.” The clerk disappears through a door and I’m left standing in the store, hoping that my search can finally be over.

A few minutes pass before she comes back.

”I’m sorry, but it seems the company has stopped making what you’re looking for”

I stand there without saying a word.

It doesn’t even exist anymore?

I can’t believe it.

I don’t want to believe it.

I’ve searched the entire day for something that doesn’t even exist and not a single worker could tell me that?

I don’t believe it.
