“Not like me”

I grew up in a place that made me into a hard man.

But the world didn’t need another hard man.

It needed someone soft.

Someone caring.

It took me a long time to realize this.

Too long.

And when I finally did I had spent most of my life trying to be unique in a world filled with men like me.

Hard men.

I’ve tried to change.

I’ve done everything I could think of.

But nothing has helped.

I’m still the same person I was growing up.

I guess people don’t change.

We can’t change.

We are what we are until the end.

The only thing I can do is try to fake it.

Fake it so my children don’t turn out like me.

So they become caring people.

Nice people.

Not hard like me.
