Flash fiction: “Bad week”

This past week has been one of the worst in my life.

It started off well enough. As well as any other week. Nothing much happened, and I was content with what was going on. But the longer the week went on, the worse it became.

It started Wednesday when I was driving to work. It was like any other day. I had woken up and had breakfast with my wife then got into my car.

Halfway to work the traffic just stopped. In the middle of the damned highway. It was probably a crash so we would have to stand still for a while.
I knew I had a meeting, but it was another hour and a half. I wasn’t worried.

I should have been.

Three hours later I was still stuck in traffic, and my boss was calling to tell me that the people I was meeting with had left.

I wasn’t too worried about it. There was nothing I could have done. My boss would understand, and all I had to do was reschedule the meeting.

Two days later I was back in my car. I had called everyone, and we had agreed to meet. This time I wasn’t going to be late, so I got in my car three hours before the meeting was about to start.

Just like last time traffic came to a complete stop halfway to work. I wasn’t having it.

I drove into the side lane and passed everyone who was slowing down and stopping. Soon I passed the two cars who had crashed.

I was happy. This time I wasn’t going to be late.

I happy until I saw the lights in my rearview mirror.

So now I’m sitting outside my bosses office, waiting to tell him that I missed the meeting once more and that I no longer have a driver’s license.

I’m so losing my job.
